First camp ever!

Kia Ora, two weeks ago we went on a school camp to the Bay of Islands. So in the morning on Monday we all arrived at school at 7:15 in the morning, packed our bags into the bus, said goodbye to our parents and we were off. I felt quite scared because I had never been away from my Mum, Sister and Brother for a whole five days but I pushed through it cause I had my dad by my side the whole time.

My favourite day was day four because we got to go kayaking at Urupukapuka Island. But before that we went on a ferry to get to the Island. Once we got to the Island we saw where we were going to kayak then went for a massive walk up hills, down hills and back around to where we were kayaking. When we got there we all got changed into our togs then half of us went kayaking while the others went swimming. I went swimming first. It was soooo cold. Then it was time to kayak. The day had finished and we had finished our showers and it was time to Kiwi Hunt. We had colour groups and we went group by group. Our group colour got called and we were off. there was part of a tree that was so tall. One of our teachers was climbing over it and laughed and scared all the kiwis away! So I didn’t get to see any kiwis.

Bye for now.

Being Safe Online

Kia Ora, This term we have been focusing on cyberbullying and what to do if you get an unsuitable message or comment on any app. If you have got an unsuitable message or comment make sure you send it in an email to a teacher or adult that you know can help you. Make sure you take a screenshot of it to add to the email and also add the link to the tab. In the email say how it made you feel about yourself, Whether you feel sad, uncomfortable or even mad.

When you take a photo make sure you have permission from the person to make sure it’s ok for you to take the photo.

You should even ask before you take the photo.

The Novel Journey

Kia ora, My name is Leeya and in Hauraki for reading we have been assigned a reading group. My group got assigned a really sad book called Cool! by Michael Morpurgo. It’s about a boy who’s ten and his mum tells him to take his dog Lucky for a walk so he takes his dog for a walk and as he’s crossing the road a car starts coming forward very fast and the lady in the car pushes on the brakes really hard. But the brakes don’t work in time and the lady knocks Robbie down on accident and Robbie gets into a coma. Then Robbie’s dad after six months sneaks Robbie’s dog Lucky into the hospital and puts Lucky onto his hospital bed. Then robbie finally wakes up. We had to do a slideshow about it and one of the slides was that we had to make a poster about our book. This is my poster.

The Anzac Surprise

Kia Ora, I’m Leeya and on Thursday the 27th of April we found out that we were in the war and THE WAR HAD STARTED! well not actually but in the TWA syndicate the teachers had put string all over the classroom and we had to work under it for the whole entire day. I absolutely hated it. They didn’t let us in until the nine o’clock bell rang and if we talked we had to do five pushups and if we talked while doing the push ups we had to do five or ten more. One of the activities that we had to do was a poem, for the poem we had to write a poem about a moment in time if we were in the war. At the start of the day I felt a little scared, then during the day it felt boring and at the end of the day I

was happy it was over.🤩 I loved that in the morning we had to do marching because someone got caught talking so they had to do pushups it was very funny. I said to my friend Eliza that we even get the breaks we usually get. Luckily we did because we didn’t have the fruit break.

Summer Learning Journey – Let’s Get Funky – Activity 2

What an exciting afternoon I’ve had.  First I learnt how to create a song.  You can check this out on my previous post here then for this activity I learnt how to create a video using scratch. I had to design a pattern first then a background.  Using code I added some special effects.

Check out my video:

These 2 activities were so much fun and I learnt two new skills.  I look forward to using these again.

Blog you next time.

Summer Learning Journey – Let’s Get Funky – Activity 1

Hello, how are you enjoying my Summer Learning Journey? I am having lots of fun and learning heaps of new things.

Today’s activity involves me making my own song using Sumotones. This was so much fun.  I used Sumotones for the first time and had to choose 3 instruments to create my song with.  I chose drums, acoustic guitar and a round synth bass keyboard.

Then under each instrument there was prerecorded segments.  I then played around and chose the ones I thought sounded good together and made this song. Have a listen.

Have you used Sumotunes before?

See you next time.

Summer Learning Journey – Art for Arts Sake – Activity 2

Back for some more silhouette art work.  This time I have to create an art piece using one of the previous silhouettes and duplicating, flipping and using different colours and patterns.

I had lots of fun playing around with this creation.

See you on the next blog.

Summer Learning Journey – Art for Arts Sake – Activity 1

Welcome back to my blog.  For this post I had to learn about silhouette drawings.  Using google draw I had to take a photo of a family member with their side profile and draw around it and fill it in black.  Here is my attempt. Siluets were highly popular between 1790 and 1840.

Summer Learning Journey – Super Seesaw – Explore Levers and Catapults

I am so excited about this post.  I have been waiting to do some Nanogirl science activities.  I watched Nanogirl making a seesaw and using it as a catapult.  Then I had to try and make a catapult with my science toolkit that I gathered earlier in the Summer Learning Journey. For this task I had to use a cardboard tube, string, blue tack, long handled spoon and a projectile of my choice.

Here is a picture of my seesaw catapult before I tested it.

Then comes the fun part.  Testing my creation.  How many times do you think I was able to hit my target?

Unfortunately I only got the target once.  It was very frustrating.  But I wasn’t going to give up until I got the target at least once.  I am proud of the perseverance I used until I reached my goal.  I had to evaluate and problem solve to get my goal.  I changed the direction the spoon was pointing and also the distance that the target (cup) was from the spoon a few times.  Eventually I got the right combo.

Even though it was hard, I still had lots of fun.

Summer Learning Journey – Escape Room

Wow!! I managed to escape the Beach Holiday room.  And then you know what was really exciting.  I got to make my own escape room.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to help the students get out to the playground.

Did you answer the question correctly and escape to the playground? If you make an escape room, please comment below with a link so I  can try yours.

Hope you had fun.
